South African School Curriculum

New school. Changing countries? Help?
Hi,
So i am moving back to Australia in a little less than 2 days. When I go to school there I will be going to school in NSW.
The last time I was in Australia I had finished grade 9 (2007) and im the country I am in now I am in grade 11, but i am doing IGCSE instead of the normal South African curriculum.
I am 16 years old and I skipped a grade last time I was in Aus.
So when I move back to Australia should I be in grade 11 or 12?
If you take my age out of it, If i didn’t move overseas I would be in grade 12 this year, but I was going to school (Grade9) in Queensland. So I am a bit confused.
Should I be in grade 11 or 12?
Thanks.
Stacey
You will be in year 11. There is no school that does the GCSE in Australia. There are a small number of American schools but that is all. Given than in NSW Year 11 is only 3 terms (out of 4) long and term 1 is complete – that is the best place for you to go. You have missed 2 terms of year 12 (Year 12 starts in term 4 of year 11 – So you start before Xmas and then after term 3 of the next year it is exam time. The exam covers the entire year, the other part of your uni entrance score is your work throughout the year. So if you were to start now – you would fail year 12 and have to wait until you were 21 to get into uni – or repeat the entire year (not a good look on your CV).
